A re-elected Morrison Government will commit $7 million towards long overdue upgrades to the Cottesloe foreshore, ensuring the beach continues to be a safe and beautiful destination for generations to come.
Federal Member for Curtin, Celia Hammond MP, said this commitment was part of her long-term vision for the Cottesloe Foreshore.
“Cottesloe foreshore is one of Western Australia’s most iconic beaches, loved by locals as well as being a major tourism attraction that draws visitors from all over WA, Australia and indeed the world. However, its amenities, accessibility and foreshore features have not had a significant upgrade in over 40 years,” Ms Hammond said.
“A revitalised foreshore would support new and existing businesses in the area and revitalise the local economy.
“This is an important boost for the local community and for everyone in Curtin, including families, regular beach-goers as well as people who come from far and wide to visit the foreshore.
“I have listened to hundreds of locals who are passionate about seeing the opportunity for the Cottesloe foreshore realised, given the significance of the foreshore to the broader community and the state. This will only be possible with federal funding that I will deliver as part of a re-elected Morrison Government.”
If re-elected, the Morrison Government will deliver this project in partnership with the Town of Cottesloe. The $22 million redevelopment will improve beach access, create additional recreational space, reduce traffic speed and improve pedestrian access. The plan also includes an amphitheatre of grass terraces, a lookout and fitness area, and a pedestrian piazza.
Town of Cottesloe Mayor, Lorraine Young, welcomed the investment from the Morrison Government towards the foreshore redevelopment.
“An upgraded foreshore will provide a more accessible beach for everyone to enjoy – with improved beach access, additional recreational space, wide footpaths, and an overall improved look and feel for Marine Parade,” Mayor Young said.
