Cost of Living rises not helped by state fees and charges

Mar 16, 2022 | State News, Steve Thomas MLC

Shadow Treasurer Dr Steve Thomas says that the State Government should be reviewing its fees and charges policy as the community grapples with the rapidly rising cost of living.

“The State Government has a role to play in helping people cope with the massive increase in their daily costs, and it should immediately focus on how much it charges people for normal living services” Dr Thomas said.

“Given the massive budget surpluses the Government is getting, thanks to rising iron ore and gas prices, and should be looking to minimise the imposts they themselves put on people.”

“The McGowan Government is set for a $4 to $5 billion surplus this financial year, on top of $5.8 billion surplus last year” Dr Thomas said.
