Candidate for Collie-Preston
Elysia Harverson has lived and worked most of her life in the Collie-Preston electorate, and wants to see fresh vision and energy injected into the region. She believes that Collie-Preston needs a strong voice in parliament with the vigour and enthusiasm to actively promote the area.
Elysia believes that actions speak louder than words and will work hard to deliver results for Collie-Preston. She was born in Kalgoorlie, but spent her early childhood living in the bush on mining sites throughout WA.
Her family moved back into Kalgoorlie in time for Elysia to attend Kalgoorlie Catholic Primary School. It was in Kalgoorlie that Elysia developed a love of sports – particularly netball, basketball and hockey. When she was nine the family moved to a farm at Mumballup between Collie and Donnybrook, and she attended school at St Brigids Primary and then Collie Senior High School.
Growing up on a farm instilled in her a hard working ‘can-do’ attitude, and she landed her first paying job at age 11, picking up sticks on a nearby pecan plantation.
When she finished school, Elysia secured a journalism cadetship with the Collie Mail, where she remained for over four years. Following a time spent overseas living in Scotland, Israel and New Zealand, Elysia returned to Collie to become the editor of the Collie Mail.
It was not long before her strong work ethic paid off and Elysia was promoted to WA group editor, and finally Bunbury Mail manager.
Now living in Collie with her husband Josh, Elysia is actively involved in the community as a Collie
Shire Councillor, Chamber of Commerce executive and St John Ambulance volunteer.
