Minister for Health; Culture and the Arts
Member for Kalamunda
John Day has lived most of his life in the Perth Hills. He loves the fantastic and unique lifestyle the Hills offer all of us. Since 1993, John has been a Member of Parliament who has stood up for and acted on behalf of our community. Since the beginning of his term as a Member of Parliament, John has always made his views known to the Government and together as a Minister with the Premier Colin Barnett, John continues to make both our community and WA as a whole an even greater place to live.
Born at Swan Districts Hospital, John was educated at local schools and graduated from the University of Western Australia in both Science and Dentistry. Both of John’s parents instilled in him strong family values. John believes that the bringing up of children as responsible and contributing members of our society is one of the most important roles we can fulfill together as a society. John and Nikki have four children between them – all are young adults aged from 18 and above.
As a dentist, John’s experiences were greatly varied. Initially he was employed by the Perth Dental Hospital and saw patients in a variety of locations, including normal clinics, nursing homes, private homes, hospitals as well as prisons. He later moved into private practice in Glen Forrest until 1993.
John has always been committed to “speaking up” and making a positive contribution to the community. When John sees that something is wrong, he does what he can to fix it. This dedication to the community was the initial reason that caused John to stand for State Parliament in 1993. Since then, he has gained significant experience and knowledge in many different roles within the Parliament and Government, including having been Minister for Planning and Minister for Police and Emergency Services. Now serving as Health Minister and Minister for Culture and the Arts, it is his responsibility to develop a more vibrant city and State.
