Shadow Minister for Police; Road Safety; Corrective Services; Industrial Relations
Member for Hillarys
Peter holds Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce degrees and has been admitted to practice as a lawyer for more than 25 years. Prior to his service in the Western Australian Parliament, Peter was a Member of the Victorian Parliament from 1996 to 2002.
Peter has extensive experience in the private sector, government, small business and community groups. He has worked as a lawyer in private practice, as a tribunal member of the Refugee and Migration Review Tribunals, as a senior adviser in Federal and State Government and operated several of his own small businesses. Peter’s active service in the community has been recognised with awards such as the National Certificate of Merit with Gold Badge from the Returned and Services League (RSL) and the Meritorious Service Medal from the Australian Red Cross.
Peter lives in Hillarys with his wife, Karalee, and their three children, enjoying the wonderful coastal lifestyle the area has to offer. They are an active part of the local community, particularly through their involvement with the Whitfords Junior Football Club, the Sorrento Surf Live Saving Club and the Whitfords Junior Cricket Club.
As Member for North Metropolitan Region since 2013, Peter has very publicly championed the interests of the people who live and work in Perth’s northern suburbs.
Peter is dedicated to making our local area a better place to live and providing educational and employment opportunities for everyone to maximise their potential in life.
To build a safer and better community for all Western Australians, Peter has worked to increase jail terms for serious criminal offenders including dangerous sex offenders who, as a direct result of Peter’s work, will now spend more time in prison between reviews.
In the Hillarys area, he has assisted community groups like the TS Marmion Naval Cadet Unit at Hillarys Marina and the Joondalup Mens’ Shed in Padbury to battle bureaucracy and secure new leases for their facilities.
To help small business prosper and create new jobs, Peter continues to fight for less red tape and lower taxes for local business. He has also worked tirelessly to get WA a fairer share of GST revenue, which will allow us to build the infrastructure our area deserves and reduce taxes and charges in the future.
Peter is prepared to stand up for the issues that matter to local people and is already delivering results for a better future for all of us.
