Steve Martin

Candidate for Agricultural

Steve Martin has lived and worked in country WA for most of his life. He and his wife Debbie have raised a family in Wickepin where he farms in partnership with his brother and his family.

Farming and agriculture have offered him great opportunities and taught him valuable lessons.

Prior to returning to the family farm Steve worked as a journalist in Australia and various other countries around the world.   He covered court cases, industrial relations, agri politics and sport for organisations such as Australian Associated Press, News Corporation and Sydney radio station 2WS.

Steve has been an active contributor in his community.  He has served as a Wickepin Shire councillor since 2001, including a period as Shire President from 2005 to 2015.

Like most people who live in small country towns, Steve has taken on volunteer roles with various sporting and community organisations – P and C President and coach of the junior football team. More recently Steve has been a board member of Narrogin Cottage Homes – a regional aged care facility based in Narrogin.

Steve’s role in local government also allowed him to represent his region on the WA Local Government Association where he served as deputy president from 2010 to 2012.
