Labor Not Very Smart At Completing Projects On Time

Shadow Minister for Transport Libby Mettam has slammed the Labor Government’s inability to finish major projects on time, with Perth’s first Smart Freeway joining the ever-growing list.

“The government’s bumbling of major infrastructure projects ultimately comes at a cost to the WA taxpayers,” Ms Mettam said.

“This project was meant to be finished early this year, and since then we have only heard excuses from the Transport Minister about why this project has been further delayed.

“The Minister for Transport has been trumpeting the benefits of Western Australia’s first Smart Freeway since it was first announced in 2017.

“This is further proof that the Labor Government can’t finish projects on time and ultimately it’s the taxpayers who pay the price.

“This is the same Minister who is overseeing the government’s METRONET projects – which Labor spruiked for six years in Opposition. Nearly four years later, we have seen major milestones missed and not one centimetre of rail delivered on any of their METRONET projects.

“This Labor Government has overseen the largest cost and time blowouts for rail projects in WA history.

“Their METRONET projects have blown out by more than $2 billion at a time when West Australians are already struggling under the burden of Labor’s $850 increase in cost of living expenses, and the highest unemployment figures in WA history.”
