Liberals to upgrade Sandy Cove Wharf and boating facilities

WA Liberal leader Zak Kirkup joined Liberal candidate for Murray-Wellington Michelle Boylan in South Yunderup today to announce a $1 million commitment to upgrading wharf and boating facilities at Sandy Cove.

“This upgrade is part of the Liberals plan to keep our communities together by investing in the facilities that local residents deserve for a better, brighter tomorrow,” Mr Kirkup said.

“As the member for Dawesville, I know first-hand how popular boating activities are to people in this area. Enjoying time with family and friends on the water is a distinct part of the local lifestyle.

“Our waterways also provide an attractive destination for visitors from Perth and the broader region to go fishing, crabbing and boating along the Murray River and Peel Estuary.

“The Liberals are proud to invest in initiatives that will continue to enhance this area, boost community spirit and encourage families to be involved in outdoor activities.”

Liberal candidate for Murray-Wellington Michelle Boylan welcomed the project, which will incorporate provisions for multiple houseboats and smaller power boats, the construction of a promenade to separate the swimming area and boat traffic, and gangways to improve accessibility.

“Sandy Cove is a popular destination within the South Yunderup canal network for local families and visitors, who come to this location from right around the Peel Region,” Mrs Boylan said.

“This project will enhance their enjoyment of the area, as well as making it safer and more accessible as part of a masterplan to manage mixed boating and recreational use.

“It is also expected to improve the tourism experience of the area for visitors, which will better support local business and commercial activities.

“Another key consideration for the waterway is to incorporate a floating jetty to withstand the full tidal range of the waterway.“This is an exciting project for the South Yunderup community and the many local boat owners I have spoken to that will benefit from the upgrade.”
